Collierville, Tenn. (November 19, 2012) – Madeline Sanders, a senior at Briarcrest Christian School, has been named a C Spire Wireless Academic All-Stars Award winner.
Sanders is one of six students in the Greater Memphis area who received this week’s award for Mathematics. C Spire Wireless will recognize more than 160 students during the 2012-2013 school year. Sanders and other weekly winners will be honored at a luncheon at the Hilton Memphis, Thursday, May 2, 2013.
Sanders has achieved excellence in several different areas, including academics, athletics and leadership. She is known for her ability to problem solve in real world situations. Sanders has tremendous mathematical intellect combined with quick comprehension skills - she holds a 5.22 weighted grade point average and scored 32 on the ACT. She currently is taking AP Calculus and was recently named a National Merit Commended Scholar and is a five-year recipient of the Joseph A. Clayton Award.
An officer of Mu Alpha Theta, Sanders represents the school in regional math competitions. She is a member of the National Honor Society, National Latin Honor Society, National Science Honor Society, National Art Honor Society and vice-president of the Medical Professions Club. Sanders is an integral member and captain of the Varsity Soccer Team and member of the Varsity Lacrosse and Varsity Track teams.
The C Spire Wireless Academic All-Stars program was conceived to identify and recognize high school students for excellence in academics, school leadership and community service. Now in its 7th year, the C Spire Academic All-Stars Awards are presented weekly for 28 weeks during the academic year from nominations submitted by school administrators.
Judges include educators from Rhodes College, The University of Memphis, LeMoyne-Owen College and Christian Brothers University. Each week during the year, C Spire Academic All-Stars are announced in The Commercial Appeal.
